If you are discussing the Chinese Horoscope for 2018, you’d be focusing on the Lunar New Year of the Earth Dog, which began on February 4. The characteristics applied to persons born under this influence are: cheerful, balanced, pleasant, loyal, honest, and intelligent. However, when WE talk about the Year of the Dog in Groveland, CA, we mean your four-legged friends – who could also be described by those same innate characteristics!
There is something very satisfying about taking a hike with your pup, exploring new trails side by side, and taking a quick dip together in a nearby creek to cool off. When out with your best friend, there are a few rules of etiquette to keep in mind:
- Always pick up the poop! Dogs are not “native” to the wilderness, do not eat the local flora and fauna, and bring “foreign” parasites and bacteria into the environment – which is not good for the wildlife that make their home here.
- Do not let your dog chase wildlife, as much fun as that may seem, it is very stressful for the other critters. It could also be disastrous for the wild animals or your dog.
- Keep your dog leashed when on trails – be respectful of other hikers and dogs sharing the trail.
Dogs are allowed in the Stanislaus National Forest, which sits between Groveland and Yosemite National Park. Dogs are allowed in Yosemite Valley, on a leash, but not in the greater wilderness areas of the Park. Dogs are also welcome, in a pet friendly room, at the Groveland Hotel. When booking your stay, request a pet-friendly room and we’ll happily accommodate everyone in the family!
